If you come with a camper you might find it difficult where to park, since in the cultural center it might be difficult. I always park in the opposite of the Shopping center "Talos" on the seaside. You can park there free of charge and sometimes in the winter months I have spend also a night there. There is free wifi offered by the municipal and if you fancy a burger meal (instead of traditional Greek food), Goody´s Burger is in "Talos". Few km walk to the center and there is also a stop directly front of the parking for Hop on Hop off sightseeing tour. Clever way to see the city!
Heraklion is the capital city of Crete and it is worthwhile visiting. And of course nearby you will find also Knossos, the bronze age palace. Cultural center of Heraklion is surrounded with old city walls and there is also a venetian fortress.
